Sustainable Erie is a Colorado non-profit corporation dedicated to improving the livability of the Erie planning area. It's formation and major objectives are a direct result of the community driven Erie Stakeholder Assessment Process (January-July 2001) completed in partnership with the Town of Erie.

1.2 Pollution/Waste Reduction1.2.1 Collection of recyclables at all Town facilities and eventsCombine efforts with the Town, to provide recycling at all Town Facilities and Events. (ESAP Environmental Strategy 1.2). 1.2.2 Recycling/Reuse ProgramsDevelop programs to encourage reuse and recycling. Programs will include:
1.2.3 Outdoor Lighting OrdinanceAssist the Town to draft and adopt an ordinance to minimize light pollution and maximize energy conservation by reducing electricity wasted though inefficient lighting. 1.2.4 Resource EfficiencyExamine establishment of resource efficiency requirements for facilities owned or leased by the Town of Erie.
1.3 Hazard Identification/Reduction1.3.1 Identification of potential hazardsCombine efforts with the Town, to identify potential hazards that affect the Erie Planning Area. Hazards and associated risks need to be assessed and mitigation prioritized. (ESAP Environmental Strategy 1.3)
1.4 Ecological Awareness1.4.1 Establish sustainable indicatorsCombine efforts with the Town, Boulder County and Weld County to develop Sustainable Indicators. (ESAP Environmental Strategy 1.4) 1.4.2 Support for the EnvironmentDevelop programs that encourage the community to adopt an environmentally friendly lifestyle. Programs will include:
1.5 Diversity1.5.1 Affordable HousingOrganize and support efforts to preserve and provide housing opportunities that promote an economically diverse community.
1.6 Development1.6.1 Standards for Sustainable DevelopmentPromote sustainable development through advisory consultation with town staff and Erie’s Board of Trustees. 1.6.2 Green Building StandardsEncourage the incorporation of environmentally friendly site development and construction standards in the Town’s building code. 1.6.3 Adequate Public Facilities RequirementsAssist the Town to draft and adopt an APF ordinance that will permit approval of development projects only when it has been determined that public facilities will be adequate to support and service the proposed development.
